How the film works

Paint protection film is a mechanical problem before it is a chemical one. Something has to arrive at the surface, absorb the energy, and then return to flat.

Construction

Five layers, one job each

Two of the five never reach the car. The protective film and the release liner exist to get the material onto the panel undamaged, and both are removed during installation. What stays behind is 210 microns doing three jobs: adhering, absorbing, and presenting a surface.

What the material does

Self-healing

The top coating is elastic. A light scratch displaces it rather than removing it, and heat lets it return to its original shape. In practice: a wash swirl disappears in sunlight or under warm water. Tested at 75 °C against a 0.1 mm scratch, brushed and heated until the surface reads flat again.

Hydrophobic surface

Water leaves at a contact angle of 103 degrees or more, which means it beads and rolls instead of sheeting and drying. Dust, road film and bird droppings have less to hold on to, and a wash takes less work.

Anti-yellowing

The clarity failure everyone has seen on older film is UV degradation. Goldman films measure a yellowness index of 2 or below after accelerated QUV weathering — no visible shift, no amber cast at the edges.

Impact and elongation

Tensile strength of 380 kg/cm² and elongation of 350% or more before break. The film stretches into a bumper radius without thinning at the corner, and it absorbs a stone strike instead of transmitting it.

Temperature and chemical resistance

Rated to 120 °C. Unchanged after 72 hours of oxalate exposure and after a strong-marker anti-fouling test.

Method

What we publish, and what we don't

Every figure on this site carries the test method it was measured under. If a number is not on the technical data page with a method beside it, we do not claim it.

Where a value has been supplied for one film platform but not yet for every tier, the specification table says so rather than repeating the figure as if it applied everywhere.

Independent test data held for the base film is reproduced on the technical data page exactly as issued, attributed to the film manufacturer, and without a laboratory mark of any kind.
